King Cruiser Wreck
Sunk in 1997, this wreck is a ferry 85 meters long and 25 meters wide, operating between Phuket and Phi Phi. It was after hitting the Anemone reef, piercing the floats of this imposing catamaran, that the latter sank 800 meters further. Lying at a depth of 32m, this wreck intended for experienced divers contains considerable fauna. Seriously affected after the 2004 Tsunami, penetrations are prohibited because they are dangerous, but a very large part remains explorable. It is the largest wreck around Phuket. The conditions are rarely optimal because the site is very exposed but the dives there are impressive due to the size of the wreck but also the incredible marine life which has found refuge there.
Marine Life at King Cruiser
The marine life on this site is very dense, thousands of fish have found a refuge there to shelter from predators. Large schools of small yellow snappers parade above the wreck, also a few sea bream, and very often a school of small barracuda. The wreck is also home to lots of small creatures such as shrimp, nudibranchs, crabs, shells. Always keep an eye outward; it is not uncommon to see skipjack, trevally or occasionally a whale shark passing by.
Look carefully where you go and put your hands because there are a lot of camouflaged scorpion fish and sea urchins. Under the rear platform placed at 32m we often see bamboo sharks sheltered from the light. This site is a spectacle on every dive.
